What to bring & how to get ready

A little preparation makes your appointment fast and stress-free.

Before your appointment

  • Make sure your document is filled out, but do not sign it yet unless the instructions say otherwise. Many notarizations require signing in front of the notary.
  • Confirm that all signers will be present in person at the appointment.
  • If your document requires witnesses, please arrange them in advance and confirm any requirements with the document recipient or your attorney.
  • Gather any instructions you received from your attorney, lender, or the organization that gave you the document.

Acceptable ID in California (examples)

You must bring a valid, original, government-issued photo ID. Examples include:

  • 👤 California driver’s license or ID card
  • 👤 U.S. passport (book or card)
  • 👤 Driver’s license or ID from another U.S. state
  • 👤 U.S. military ID or other IDs permitted under current California law

IDs must be current or issued within the timeframe allowed by California law, and I must be able to clearly identify you from the ID. No photocopies or digital screenshots.

What happens during your visit

  • 1. I review your ID and the document to determine what type of notarization is needed.
  • 2. For certain documents, I’ll place you under oath or affirmation and ask a few simple questions to confirm your understanding and willingness.
  • 3. You sign (if required) and I complete the notarial certificate and apply my seal.
  • 4. You leave with notarized documents ready for the next step (filing, mailing, etc., as directed by your attorney or the requesting party).

Frequently asked questions

If you still have questions, you can always ask when you reach out to book.

Can you tell me which form I need?

No. Choosing a document is a legal decision. I can explain what I’m doing as a notary, but I cannot tell you which document to use or how to fill it out. For that, please consult an attorney or the organization requesting the document.

Do you draft or review documents?

No. I do not create or review documents for legal content. I only verify identity, witness signatures when required, and complete the notarial certificate.

Can you notarize documents in another language?

In some cases, yes, as long as I can communicate clearly with you in a language we share and the notarial certificate is in English or as permitted by California law. If you have a document in another language, please mention it when you contact me.

What if my ID is expired?

California has specific rules about expired IDs. Feel free to contact me with the details of your ID so we can see if it may still be used or if you need to obtain a different form of identification.

Do you see walk-ins?

No. All notarizations are by appointment only so that I can give each client focused, unhurried attention. Same-day appointments may be available.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes, as long as you feel comfortable. I understand that childcare isn’t always easy to arrange. I simply ask that you’re able to focus during the short time it takes to review and sign your documents.

About MVP Notary Services

A notary experience built for real life: kids, work, deadlines, and everything in between.

Meet your notary

I’m Mrinalini, a California commissioned notary public based in San Jose. I’m also a paralegal and a mom, which means I understand both the seriousness of legal paperwork and the everyday chaos of real life.

I created MVP Notary Services to give people a calmer, more human notarization experience. My approach is organized but relaxed: I’ll walk you through what needs to happen, double-check the details, and give you space to ask questions about the process (never legal advice).

Whether you’re signing a power of attorney, updating financial documents, or handling school and family forms, my goal is for you to leave feeling confident, informed, and taken care of.

Values I care about:
Clarity, kindness, confidentiality, and respect for your time. Your documents may be routine for me, but I know they’re often a big deal in your life.
